Challenge submission guidelines

Challenge deadline: EXTENDED! 6th January, 2023, 23:59 CET

You can submit an application to both categories with a maximum of one submission per category. The applicant must be a PhD or a Master’s student as of March 24, 2023. Winners of the challenge must be available to present their work during the plenary session of the ISMRM Benelux 2023 meeting on March 24, 2023.

This year, two winners will be awarded over two categories: The Best MRI Comic and The Best Lay Summary. The aim of the challenge is to popularize MR-related research outside the professional MR community. As an example, you can think of presenting your work to children, young adults, or senior citizens.

Specifics for the ISMRM Benelux The Best MRI Comic Award 2023

  • The comic or a sketch must be originally designed by the author.
  • There are no restrictions on the topic of the comic/sketch but the content must be MR-related.
  • You are allowed to base your comic/sketch on publications published by other researchers in the MR field.
  • Submission requirements:
    1. The uploaded file must be one A4 page (21.0 x 29.7 cm) in .pdf format. The file should not exceed 5 MB.
    2. File name: The uploaded file name should be “FirstName_LastName” of the author. Do not include spaces in the file name as this will cause an error.
    3. All file content must have a sufficient resolution (min. 300 dpi).

Specifics for the ISMRM Benelux The Best Lay Summary Award 2023

  • The lay summary must be originally written by the author. Only one author is allowed.
  • The summary should be interesting to read and easy to understand.
  • You have to write a summary of your own research.
  • There are no restrictions on the topic of the summary but the content must be MR-related.
  • Submission requirements:
    1. The uploaded file must be one A4 page (21.0 x 29.7 cm) in .doc or .docx format, prepared using this template. The file should not exceed 5 MB.
    2. File name: The uploaded file name should be “FirstName_LastName” of the author. Do not include spaces in the file name as this will cause an error.
    3. Margins: Use the margins already set in the template (1.9 cm on all sides).
    4. Fonts: Calibri with font size 10 pt
    5. Text: The text should be formatted in one column across the page. The main text must not exceed 300 words and the full work should fit on one page.
    6. Figure: You can include a maximum of one figure, placed after the text.

General content guidelines

  1. The content may not promote the proprietary interests of any commercial entity. Evident bias in favor of a particular product or company is grounds for rejection.
  2. Content must be restricted to pure science, industry issues and operation of devices, Product /company names should be included only to identify the MR hardware/software/ peripherals used, but not to promote proprietary interests (see Point 1).
  3. All recommendations involving clinical medicine must be based on evidence that is accepted within the profession of medicine as adequate justification for their indications and contraindications in the care of patients.
  4. All scientific research referred to, reported or used in support or justification of a patient care recommendation must conform to generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection and analysis.
  5. The Proceedings will be published electronically on this website. The winners’ work will be available online two weeks before the meeting to pre-registered attendees only. If you wish to have access to the Proceedings before the meeting, you must pre-register.
  6. All submitted files are treated as confidential from the time of submission to the publication date, 24th March 2023.
  7. All copyrights to accepted submissions become the property of ISMRM Benelux Chapter. No proprietary information may be withheld by authors.

Prizes

The winners of both categories will be awarded a travel grant of  €750 for the ISMRM annual meeting 2023 and the runners-up will receive a free dinner at the ISMRM Benelux meeting. Moreover, the winners’ work will be presented by the board at the ISMRM annual meeting and published in the ISMRM Benelux programme book.
